INDONESIA COAL EXPORTS DROP IN FEBRUARY
COALspot.com: Indonesia, the world largest coal exporter, exported 24.38 million tons in January 2010 which fell slightly to 22.89 mln ton of coal in February 2010. February coal exports down by 6.11 percent compared to January 2010 exports.
China & India Imports
China was a largest importer of Indonesian coal in February 2010. However Indonesian coal exports to China drops 2.1 percent in February. Indonesia exported 8.62 MLN tons coal in February to china compared to 8.81 MLN tons in January 2010. “China's coal-hungry power plants have turned to Indonesia to import coal since second half of last year and the import trend will be expected to continue” sellers said.
“Chinese interests are still there," an another seller, related to Chinese exports said.

India was second largest importer of Indonesian coal in February 2010. India imported 3.92 mln ton of coal in February compared to 3.28 mln ton in January 2010 or increased by 19.51 percent M-o-M. Japan, South Korea and Taiwan have imported 3.19, 3.03 and 1.78 mln tons of coal in February 2010 respectively. Indian buyers are around Indonesia to book cargo for March / April loading.
“Indian buyers are looking for 5300 GAD to 6300 GAD coal. However the price expectation of Indian buyer were quite lesser than current Indonesian export price” a middle level coal producer said.
Top coal exporter
Bumi Resources as a parent company of KPC and Arutmin was a largest exporter of Indoensian coal in January by exporting around 4.47 mln tons. However Adaro Indonesian was the single largest exporter of coal In February 2010. According to our sources, around 69 percent of total exported Indonesian coal in January, was exported by 6 coal producers including Bumi, Adaro, Banpu, Berau, Tanito and PTBA.
Loading delays
Significant number of vessels were delayed in east Kalimantan anchorage since early February 2010.
” Wet weather and over commitments were part of the reason for delays” said a stevedoring company operator. According to available data, around 32 handy max to panamax vessels are still waiting for loading. The market players and independent surveyors were also saying that, there were considerable delays in performing coal loading since December 2009 (cs)
