THE INDIAN MARKET WAS A BIT QUIET BUT STILL FIRM - FEARNLEYS AS
Handy - Atlantic activity has kept its firm tendency throughout the week for handies, with Atlantic RV´s fixed in the USD.16000 region. With spot cargoes and few vessels around, the Baltic RV´s were paid USD 20000 and Black Sea/US Gulf around USD 15000. The Feast market was still improving during the week. The rates were again increasing for all directions. For Pacific rounds Supras trading in the mid 20´s and for Indo/India coal trips Supras can achieve around low 20´s. There was still a fair amount of interest in period business, for short period Supras were fixed in the mid 20´s where some ows trading high 20´s.
The Indian market was a bit quiet but still firm; for iron ore trips from WCI to China Supras trading in the low 40´s. Supras open ECI can achieve mid/high 30´s for trips via WCI to China.
Panamax - The Atlantic Panamax market closed last week on a firm note. The driver for the market was the grain cargoes out of ECSA which caused chrts to overbid each other on prompt tonnage open in the Far East - fixing mid 30k for same. At the beginning of the week the market took a breather with few fresh orders and seemingly most of the grain cargoes were covered.

“The FFA market was fairly quiet until Wednesday when it turned firm for the Panamax Q2 paper”

|
Atlantic round voyages are getting fixed in the mid 30´s and fronthauls at high 40´s. In the Pacific the firm market has continued and RVs were fixed at 30k level. USD 50500 was done on a LME from WCI to China. The FFA market was fairly quiet until Wednesday when it turned firm for the Panamax Q2 paper.
Capesize - Last we can only be described as messy and confusing. There was a serious push and rates rose to USD 11.00 for the West Australia / China leg and the front haul followed suit. Then the market woke up to a hangover on Monday and the previous enthusiasm dwindled and the rates began to fall. Predictions were that by the end of the week we would see West Australia atUSD 9.50 again.
At the time of writing, the market has re-invented itself and rates have been pushed back to USD 11.00 level for the abovementioned trade. Fronthaul has yet to follow suit and remains around USD 28.00. On the period front a modern vessel was concluded at USD 35000 for 12 months, most consider this to be a premium as the paper market does not support this rate.
