NAPOCOR TO TENDER FOR 195,000 T COAL - ABS-CBNNEWS.COM
Top Philippine electricity producer National Power Corp. (Napocor) said on Friday it will hold a tender on May 20 to buy 195,000 tons of steam coal for its Sual power plant on northern Luzon island.
The state-run power firm is looking for coal with gross calorific value of 5,960-6,750 kcal/kg, according to the company's website. Delivery is scheduled from June 21 to July 25.
Napocor said last week it would also hold a tender on May 13 to purchase 195,000 tons of steam coal for its Pagbilao power facility, also on the main Luzon island.
Napocor has said it needs nearly 3.5 million tons of coal for its power plants this year, and has awarded 1.365 million tons so far to several Indonesian suppliers.
The company expects its coal imports this year to be lower than the 4.18 million tons it purchased in 2008 as the Southeast Asian country has privatised a number of power stations. It also sources some fuel locally.
Prices of power-station coal from Australia, a benchmark for Asia, edged up above $63 a ton in the past week, on firm demand from China and power plants in Asia, but are still down from a record high over $200 in July last year.
