THE FUTURES FOR CAPE, PANAMAX AND SUPRAMAX FOR THREE YEARS (2010 - 2012) WAS AT AROUND US$ 32,000, US$ 20,000 AND US$ 17,000 PER DAY RESPECTIVELY
 COALspot.com ( Singapore): The freight market remained flat this week the market slight soft.
BDI INDEX
The BDI was down by 95 points and closed at 3,204 points as on 22 January 2010. The cape index continued was down by 214 points by 5 pct and closed at 4,161 points. The panamax , Supramax and Handy size did not change much and was only down by about 2-3 pct and closed at 3,661, 2,449 and 1,210 points respectively.
CHARTER HIRE
The average charter hire was at Cape US$ 40,307 per day, Panamax US$ 29,417 per day, Supramax US$ 25,603 per day and Handy size US$ 17,613 per day.
The Supramax index in the far-east (S6 route) continued to softened and was down by US$ 1,240 per day and closed at US$ 20,060 per day. It seems that this week could see some more softening in this sector. The ECI / China (S7) route also softened slightly by US$ 487 per day and closed at 33,096 per day. Short period rates for Supramax was around US$ 24,000 per day for vessels opening Far-east / SE Asia. Supramax charter rates for one year is around US$ 20,000 per day.
THREE YEARS FUTURE
The futures for three years (2010 - 2012) was at around Cape US$ 32,000 per day, Panamax US$ 20,000 per day, Supramax US$ 17,000 per day and Handy size US$ 13,000 per day, Vistaar Shipping Singapore, an experienced ship operator from Singapore said. The market is likely to be flat this week also with Chinese new year approaching.

Overall the bulk seaborne trade is expected to be strong with China being net importer of Coal. In December alone china imported 16.40 million tons of coal and for the whole year the import was around 103 million tons.
PORT CONGESTION
The congestion at Australian ports in the EC for coal loading increased to 139 vessels (last week 134 vessels). The waiting at DBCT was around 30 days , Hay point and Gladstone 7-10 days and Newcastle about 16 days.
On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting also increased to 30 vessels (last week 27 vessels). The waiting at Indian ports for coal vessels was considerably less and was around 3/4 days.
CRUDE
The Brent crude prices was softened quite a bit and was at US$ 72.45 per barrel (last week US$ 77.14 per barrel). The prices of bunkers softened to US$ 470 pmts (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore) as on 22nd Jan 2010.
