THE FUTURES FOR THREE YEARS (2010 - 2012) FIRMED UP - VISTAAR SINGAPORE


COALspot.com (Singapore): The freight market was a bit mixed with BDI up by about 159 points and closed at 3,299 points.

BDI
The cape index continued firmed up this week by about 17 pct up by 642 points and closed at 4,375 points. The panamax continued to be soft this week almost down by 11 pct down by 473 points and closed at 3,745 points. The Supramax was firm overall and the index was up by 5 pct up by 117 points and closed at 2,535 points. The handy size index was almost at same levels without much change and closed at 1,200 points.

The average charter hire was at Cape US$ 42,242 per day, Panamax US$ 30,085 per day, Supramax US$ 26,505 per day and Hand ysize US$ 17,465 per day.

The supramax index in the far east (S6 route) quite firm during the week and was up by US$ 893 per day and closed at US$ 21,303 per day.

However on Friday the S6 route dropped by US$ 195 per day. It seems that next week could see some softening in this sector.

S7 ROUTE
The ECI / China (S7) route was continued to be firm and was up by US$ 2,750 per day and was at  US$ 33,583 per day. The west coast India to China some fixtures were reported in excess of US$ 40,000 per day. Short period rates for Supramax was around US$ 24,000 per day for vessels opening Far east / SE Asia.

Supramax charter rates for one year is around US$ 20,000 per day.

THREE YEARS FUTURES
The futures for three years (2010 - 2012) firmed up compared to last week and was at around Cape US$ 32,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 20,000 per day, Supramax US$ 17,000 per day, Handysize US$ 13,000 per day.

"The market is likely to be seems will be steady overall and expected to be a bit flat" - Capt. Reddy

The supramax market will depend on the demand for iron ore ex India and will be interesting to see if the demand continues  to be firm.

AUSTRALIAN PORTS CONGESTION
The congestion at Australian ports in the EC for coal loading increased to 134 vessels (last week 121 vessels), with maximum waiting at DBCT about 30 days and Newcastle about 16 days. On the WC Australia  iron ore vessels waiting also increased to 27  vessels (last week 17 vessels).

The waiting at Indian ports for coal vessels was considerably less and was around 3/4 days.

CRUDE
The brent crude prices was firm beginning of the week with prices of bunkers touching US$ 510 pmts (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore). However the brent crude prices softened towards closing of the week and closed as US$ 77.14 barrel.

The bunker prices was around US$ 486 pmt (IFO 380 cst) ex singapore on Friday 15th Jan.
