HANDY CONTINUED FIRM CONDITIONS FOR MARKET IN THE ATLANTIC
 HANDY
Continued firm conditions for the Handymax / Smax market in the Atlantic with the BSI having a continued upwards momentum. US$ 45,000 achieved by Supras dely Cont/Black Sea to FEast, high 30´s/low 40´s for Handymaxes USG to MED.
Trips via Brazil to FEast are paying low/mid 30 ´s bss West Africa dely. Short period and 1-year running at US$ 16/17,000 for 40/42,000 dwt Handymaxes bss dely Atl. Outlook: stable to firm market.
The FEast market remains active this week. The rates are still firm. Supras trading for Pacific rounds and Indonesia/India coal trips in the very high 10 ´s/low 20´s. The period market was quite active, for short period Supra fixed in the mid 20´s.
India; for India / China iron ore trips ows asking high 30´s from WCI and low 30´s from ECI. Indian Ocean rounds via Richards Bay trading in the mid 30´s bss WCI, high 20´s bss ECI and mid 20 bss SEASI.
PANAMAX
The market started out in a firm pace with shortage of Atlantic loaders and firmer rates all over.
A good volume of period fixtures concluded 1 - yr period touched US$ 26,000 and short period at a peak of abt US$ 30,000. Over the weekend orders available started thinning out, charterers withdrew, more tonnage became available, and the market rates started flattening out Present round voyage rates are abt US$ 35000 for T/A and US$ 28000 for Pac rv. Trips east receiving abt US$ 45,000.
Average Baltic index went from US$ 33,103, peaked at US$ 33,915, and have decreased to US$ 32,125.
The Indian market is still relatively well off getting competition from EC S.Am grain and demand of iron ore. Still a very unclear and confusing market with no clear direction and mixed signals of the future demand of coal and iron ore from China.
CAPESIZE
The market has displayed shaky tendencies.
After a negative end to last week the market opened on a positive note with significantly more enquiry on Monday, but was met with a mounting number of vessels eager to fix. Thus the market has not spiked, but rather slowly improved, both from Australia and Brazil. The paper markets have been equally nervous, and even fell as the physical showed signs of strength, and this prompted several owners to seek short period coverage at the mid US$ 40000 level, which is a bullish view.
The Index has moved from 3,824 and up to 3,865, with a low of 3,718 on Monday.
