The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has imposed sanctions in the form of a coal export ban for 34 coal companies as reported by CNBC Indonesia.
According to CNBC Indonesia reports, those 34 companies did not fulfilled their Domestic Market Obligation according to the sales contract with PT PLN (Persero) and/or PT PLN Batu Bara for the period 1 January to 31 July, 2021. The coal export ban made accordance with the Decree No.139.K/HK.02/MEM.B/2021 issued by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources on August 4, 2021.
Based on documents received by CNBC Indonesia, CNBC says, the Director General of Mineral and Coal (Dirjen Minerba) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ridwan Djamaluddin, has sent a letter regarding the "Prohibition of exporting Coal to Overseas" to the Director General of Foreign Trade, the Director General of Customs and Excise, and the Director General Sea Transportation on August 7, 2021. The letter required related departments for their corporation to freeze Registered Exporters (ET), not to issuing Goods Export Notification (PEB) and Sailing Approval Letter (SPB) for the purpose of exporting coal to overseas by 34 companies that mentioned in letter until they fulfill DMO.
CNBC Indonesia further reported, Director General of Mineral and Coal Ridwan Djamaluddin has confirmed the existence of sanctions of banning coal exports to the 34 coal companies for not meeting the DMO from January-July 2021.
