JAN-MAY, INDONESIA SHIPPED 175.15 MILLION TONS OF COAL TO ITS OVERSEAS BUYERS
 Indonesia's coal production for the first 5 months of this year have reached 228 million tons. January – May 2020, Indonesia shipped US$ 7.77 billion worth of 175.15 million tons of coal to its overseas buyers. While the coal miners, have supplied 53.55 million tons of coal to domestic end-users under the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) requirement, CNBC Indonesia reported.
According to CNBC reports, Agung Pribadi, the Head of Communication and Public Information and Cooperation Agency (KLIK) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, said that “the realization of coal production as of 31 May 2020 was still in line with the target of ministry. The country has already mined 228 million tons of coal by May 2020 which is 42% of targeted volume for 2020.
The country is also targeting to export around 435 million tons of coal in 2020.
CNBC further reported, according to him, coal demand and trade in the international market in 2020 is expected to decrease due to the Covid-19 pandemic. To address the low demand from its traditional buyers, Indonesia is also exploring to export to several other developing countries, "such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. In addition, it will increase the efficiency of the coal supply chain of coal importing countries and conducts direct contracts or direct shipping to importing countries," he said,
CNBC further noted that, Even though production is in line with the target, it does not mean that Covid-19 has no impact on the coal industry. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources previously projected the price of Indonesian coal at the end of 2020 to be in the range of US$ 59-61 per ton.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the price of Indonesian coal at the end of 2020 is estimated to be around US$ 59-61 per ton. By the end of 2021 it will reach US$ 66 per ton, and at the end of 2022 it will be at around US$ 69 per ton.
