TRAFIGURA GROUP PTE LTD SIGNS RECORD US$5.725 BILLION EUROPEAN MULTICURRENCY SYNDICATED REVOLVING CREDIT FACILITIES AND JPY72.64 BILLION DENOMINATED THREE YEAR TERM LOAN
Press Release: Trafigura Group Pte Ltd. (“Trafigura” or the “Company”), a market leader in the global commodities industry, has successfully refinanced its flagship European multicurrency syndicated revolving credit facility (the “ERCF”) totaling USD5.725 billion. The ERCF, initially launched at USD4.5 billion, was very well received by the bank market and closed substantially oversubscribed, allowing the Company to upsize the facility.
The ERCF comprises a USD2.20 billion 365-day revolving credit facility with two 365-day extension options and a USD3.525 billion 3-year revolving credit facility with two 1-year extension options. The ERCF will be used to refinance the maturing USD2.27 billion 364-day tranche of the facility dated 23rd March 2017, and the existing USD3.25 billion 3-year tranche of the Company’s USD5.1 billion facility dated 24th March 2016, as well as for general corporate purposes.
In a separate transaction Trafigura returned for the fourth time to the Japanese domestic syndicated bank loan market and raised JPY72.64 billion (USD682 million equivalent) via a three-year term loan (“Samurai Loan”), which saw a 23 percent increase compared to the size of the company’s previous Samurai Loan which raised JPY 58.86bn in 2016. Nineteen Japanese financial institutions supported the Samurai Loan, demonstrating the continued interest of domestic lenders in Trafigura’s credit. Three new institutions joined the syndicate, while the majority of existing lenders continued to participate and increased the amount invested. This transaction refinances the 2016 Samurai Loan and will also be used for general corporate purposes.
Christophe Salmon, Chief Financial Officer for Trafigura, commented: “We simultaneously re-financed two core credit facilities of the Group and this was achieved at tighter pricing levels and with the support of a larger and more diverse bank group. We have demonstrated year after year that we are able to deliver profitable and sustained growth. We are grateful for the support that the banking community has shown to Trafigura once again and we are pleased to welcome new banks to the facilities.”
The European RCF was arranged by Mandated Lead Arrangers & Bookrunners ING Bank N.V., National Westminster Bank plc, Standard Chartered Bank and UniCredit Bank AG acting as Active Bookrunners, along with Bank of China Limited, London Branch and Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking acting as Passive Bookrunners. In addition to the six Mandated Lead Arrangers & Bookrunners, five Mandated Lead Arrangers and 41 additional financial institutions joined the ERCF during syndication, totaling 52 banks.
The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd., Mizuho Bank Europe N.V. and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Europe Limited acted as Bookrunners and Mandated Lead Arrangers for the Samurai Loan.
