THE FREIGHT MARKET ROSE IN ALL SEGMENTS EXCEPT PANAMAX WEEK OVER WEEK
 COALspot.com: The freight market rose in all segments except Panamax week over week. Mainly Cape has supported to boosted up BDI this past week, BDI and BCI show a positive trend week over week.
The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities rose this past week and ending on a positive note week over week. The BDI was up by 8.45% from the last week and Cape Index was up 17.21% or increased 462 points week over week.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was reported an increase of 8.45% week over week and ended at 1502 points on 22 September 2017. The index peaked at 11,793 points in May 2008.
The Cape Index was up by 17.21% week over week. The BCI increased 462 points to 3147 on 22 September 2017. While the Panamax Index (BPI) was declined (1.84%) week over week.
The Supramax index (BSI) was up 8.6% this past week to 1061 points on 22 September 2017, compared to 977 points on 15 September 2017. The handy size index was up 11.19% and the index was closed at 596 points increased 60 points for the same period.
According to Vistaar India, this past week’s daily average earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India passing through Singapore has stayed firm, week over week, owners were rating at around US$ 16000 - 17000 per day, while the Panamax vessels were rated at around $ 12000 per day delivery Shanghai area.
Vistaar further noted that the futures for three years (2017-2020) for the ships were reported slightly higher than the current spot rates that ships were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 16000 per day, the Panamax at US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax at US$ 10000 per day and Handy size at US$ 8500 per day.
The freight rates are expected to be steady to firm this week, says Vistaar India.
The Brent crude oil price was closed at $56.86 per barrel 2.23% higher than the same period last week.
The bunker prices were closed at $342.50 pmt (IFO 380 CST ex. Singapore on 22 September 2017). IFO 380 Prices up 1.03% week over week, up 9.25% month over month and up 31.47% year on year.
