THE FREIGHT MARKET ROSE WEEK OVER WEEK; BCI UP 22.22% & BPI UP 14.77%
 COALspot.com: The freight market rose in all segments week over week. Mainly Cape and Panamax have supported to pushed up BDI this past week, BDI, BCI and BPI indexes show a positive trend week over week.
The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities rose this past week and ending on a positive note week over week. The BDI was up by 12.59% from the last week and Cape Index was up 22.22% or increased 503 points week over week.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was reported an increase of 12.59% week over week and ended at 1332 points on 8 September 2017. The index peaked at 11,793 points in May 2008.
The Cape Index was up by 22.22% week over week. The BCI increased 503 points to 2767 on 8 September 2017. The Panamax Index (BPI) was also rose (14.77%) week over week.
The Supramax index (BSI) was up 3.74% this past week to 888 points on 8 September 2017, compared to 856 points on 1 September 2017. The handy size index was slightly up 3.7% and the index was closed at 504 points increased 18 points for the same period.
According to Vistaar India, this past week’s daily average earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India passing through Singapore has stayed firm, week over week, owners were rating at around US$ 13500 - 14000 per day, while the Panamax vessels were rated at around $ 9000 – 10,000 per day delivery Shanghai area. Compared to last week’s trend bother segments.
Vistaar further noted that the futures for three years (2017-2020) for the ships were reported slightly higher than the current spot rates that ships were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 16000 per day, the Panamax at US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax at US$ 9,500 per day and Handy size at US$ 7500 per day.
The freight rates are expected to be steady to firm this week, says Vistaar India.
The Brent crude oil price was closed at $53.78 per barrel 2.67% higher than the same period last week.
The bunker prices were closed at $336.50 pmt (IFO 380 CST ex. Singapore on 8 September 2017). IFO 380 Prices up 5.98% week over week, up 6.99% month over month and up 30.17% year on year.
