SHORT PERIOD RATE FOR SUPRAMAX WAS AROUND US$ 17,000 PER DAY FOR VESSELS OPENING FAR EAST / SE ASIA - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com (Singapore): The dry bulk market continued to be stable with the BDI just dropping by about 5 pct to 2,356 points last week. The change is mainly due to Cape size index which dropped by 15 pct last week and closed at 3,008 points.
"It is interesting to note that the Cape index has been continuously falling and in last six weeks has dropped by almost 45 pct. It appears that there would be pressure on Cape size vessels due to quite a few new deliveries in next 2 years" said Capt. Reddy an experienced ship operator in Singapore.
According to Vistaar Shipping, Singapore, the Panamax / Supramax / Handy size index has been firm / steady last week and closed at 2,572 , 2,063 and 948 points respectively. The charter hire end of last week was at Cape / US$ 27,520 per day, Panamax / US$ 20,630 per day, Supramax / US$ 21,567 per day and Handy size / US$ 13,340 per day
The Supramax index in the far East (S6 route) increased by 11 pct and the charter hire was at US$ 14,580 per day. The ECI / China (S7) route firmed up by 21 pct and the charter hire was at US$ 18,383 per day. The India / Feast seems will be firm this week which indicates that the iron ore exports to china are picking up. The freight rates from Indonesia and Australia would be firm this week further elaborate Vistaar Shipping of Singapore.
Short period rate for Supramax was around US$ 17,000 per day for vessels opening Far East / SE Asia. The futures for three years for 2010-2012 is around Cape / US$ 22,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 15,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 14,000 per day, Handy size / US$ 10,500 per day.
The congestion in Australia was at 117 vessels in EC Australia and 17 Iron ore vessels waiting WC Australia. The congestion in EC India Paradip and Visakhapatnam continues to be uncertain.
The crude prices was holding fairly firm and was at US$ 71 pmt per barrel and the bunker prices was around US$ 437 pmt for IFO(380 cst) prices ex Singapore.
