THE PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 13.791 MILLION TONS OF COAL IN MARCH 2017
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export ports has shipped $AU 1,688.5 Million worth of 13.791 million tons of Power plant coal and coking coal for the month March 2017.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2017 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $AU 4.717 billion worth of 38.536 million tons of coal. The average selling price YTD was $AU 122.41 per MT, rose approximately 41.17 percent from the same period in 2016.
The average selling price for month March 2017 was around $AU 122.42 (approximately US$ 91.66*) per ton, up approximately 0.33 percent from February 2017 average selling price of $AU 122.01 per ton and rose approximately 39.11 percent compared to March 2016.
Port has shipped 19.26 percent more coal in March 2017 compared to its February 2017 loading of 11.563 million tons. Port has also shipped 2.31% more coal YoY.
$AU 1,688.5 million trade value of coal shipped in March 2017 compared to $AU 1,410.9 million in February 2017, rose 19.67 percent month on month.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 31 March 2017, the port has served 152 (down 17.82% month on month) ocean-going vessels in March 2017. The port also served 429 ocean going vessels January to March 2017.
The port’s report further noted that the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan in the month of March 2017.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
