INDO - INDIA COAL FREIGHT RATES STAY FIRM
 COALspot.com: The Freight market was continuing to firming up.
The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities rose this past week and ending on a positive note week over week. The BDI was up by 15.65% from the last week and Cape Index was also up 45.80% or increased around 562 points week over week.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was reported up 15.65% week over week and ended at 1086 points on 10 March 2017. The index peaked at 11,793 points in May 2008.
The Cape Index was up by 45.8% week over week. The BCI closed 1789 points on 10 March 2017. The Panamax index (BPI) was also increased (8.32%) week over week.
The Supramax index (BSI) was up 3.31% to 874 points on 10 March 2017, compared to 846 points on 3 March 2017.
The handy size index was rose 0.06% and the index was closed at 495 points for the same period.
According to Vistaar India, this past week’s daily average earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India passing through Singapore was firm week over week, owners were rating at around US$ 12,000 per day, while the Panamax vessels rated at around $ 10000 per day delivery Shanghai area, rose compared to last week rates.
Indonesian coal supplies have disturbs last few week. The exports vessels were waiting for cargo beyond lay time period agreed and some vessel were sailed load port with dead freight. Road blockages and bad weather in coal-rich Kalimantan are being blamed for a disruption of coal supplies. Significant numbers of ships were waiting for load coal from Kalimantan. Daily charter rates between Indonesia to India were moving to North, due to less availability of vessels in this region.
The futures for three years (2017-2020) for the ships were reported lower than the current spot rates that ships were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 12000 per day, the Panamax at US$ 8,500 per day, Supramax at US$ 8000 per day and Handy-size at US$ 7500 per day. No change from last week’s reported three years future rate.
The freight rates are expected to be steady to firm this week.
The Brent crude oil price was closed at US$ 51.37 per barrel, decline from last week closing. The bunker prices were closed at US$ 312 pmt (IFO 380 CST ex. Singapore on 10 March 2017).
Ex. Singapore bunker prices rose 72.37% year on year and declined 9.82% year to date.
