PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 17.39% LESS COAL IN JANUARY; TRADE VALUE UP 11.87% M/M
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port has shipped $AU 1,625.6 Million worth of 13.169 million tons of Power plant coal and coking coal for the month ended January 2017. The average selling price for month January 2017 was around $AU 123.43 (approximately US$ 94.74*) per ton, rose approximately 35.42 percent from December 2016 average selling price of $AU 91.14 per ton.
Port has shipped 17.39 percent less coal in January 2017 compared to its December 2016 loading of 15.943 million tons.
$AU 1,625.6 million trade value of coal shipped in January 2017 compared to $AU 1,453.1 million in December 2016.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 31 January 2017, the port has served 148 (down 19.12% month on month) ocean-going vessels in January 2017.
The port’s report further noted that the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia & Taiwan in the month of January 2017.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
