THE INDIA / FAR EAST SEEMS WILL CONTINUE TO BE SOFT UNTIL THE IRON ORE MOVEMENTS PICKS UP - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com (Singapore): The dry bulk market continued to be stable at almost as same levels as last week and the BDI was at 2,468 points.
According to Vistaar Shipping, the cape index was almost same as last week and had dropped by 112 points and closed at 3,539 points. The Panamax, Supramax and Handysize index was up by about 16 pct , 10 pct and 6 pct respectively and the index closed 2,550 points, 1,917 point and 916 points respectively. The average charter rates were at Cape/US$ 33,555 , Panamax/US$ 20,4361, Supramax/US$ 20,432 and handysize/US$12,955.
Next week also the BDI is expected to be around 2,500 points.
The supramax index in the Far East (S6 route) increased by almost 18 pct and the charter hire was at US$ 13,075. The ECI/China (S7) route had softened by about 7 pct and the charter hire was at US$ 15,179 pday.
"The India / Far East seems will continue to be soft until the iron ore movements picks up. However as of now the iron ore ex India is quite soft and does not seem that the demand would increase" said, Capt. Reddy, Managing Director of Vistaar Shipping Services, Singapore
This week several Panamax vessels were reported fixed on short period charter at around US$ 19,000/20,000 per day for ships opening Far East. Short period rate for Supramax was around US$ 16,000 per day for vessels opening Far East/SE Asia.
According to Vistaar Shipping, an experinced ship operator in Singapore, the futures for three years for 2010-2012 is around Cape / US$ 24,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 15,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 13,500 per day and Handysize / US$ 10,500 per day.
The congestion in Australia continued to increase and was at 130 vessels in EC Australia and 21 iron ore vessels waiting WC Australia. The congestion in EC India Paradip and Visakhapatnam continues to be high.
The crude prices were up probably due to OPEC meeting and was at US$ 72 pmt per barrel and the bunker prices was around US$ 433 pmt for IFO(380 cst) prices ex Singapore.
