THE CAPE INDEX ROSE 44.57 PER CENTS TO 2303 POINT WEEK OVER WEEK
 COALspot.com: The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities rose slightly and ending in a positive note this past week. The BDI was up 22.22% from last week and Cape Index was up 44.57% or around 710 points week over week.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was reported up 22.22% week over week and ended at 1045 points on 11th November 2016. The index peaked at 11,793 in May 2008.
The Cape Index was up 44.57% week over week. The BCI closed 2303 points on 11 November 2016. The Panamax index (BPI) was up (14.24%) to 1011 points on 11 November 2016. The Supramax index (BSI) was slightly down (1.4%) to 705 points on 11 November 2016, compared to 716 points on 4 November 2016.
Meantime, the handy size index was declined slightly (-1.15%) closed at 428 points for the same period.
According to Vistaar India, the average daily earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India passing through Singapore, rated at around US$ 7000 per day this past week, while the Panamax vessels rated at around $ 8000 per day delivery South China / Hong Kong range.
The freight rates are expected to be firm this week.
The Vistaar India further noted that the spot Cape’s average charter rates were reported at around US$ 16,269 per day and Panamax was reported at around US$ 8,075 per day. The cape and Panamax average charters rates were rose week over week.
The spot Supramax’s average charters rate was at around $ 7370 per day, while the Handy-size ships were at $ 6180 per day. The Supramax and Handy-Size charter rates were declined week over week.
The futures for three years (2016-2018) for the ships were reported higher than the current spot rates the ships were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 10,500 per day, the Panamax at US$ 7,500 per day, Supramax at US$ 7,000 per day and Handy size at US$ 6,180 per day.
The Supramax S8 route charter rates down (2.27%) week over week to $5931 per day on Friday 11 November 2016 ($6069 was reported on 4 November 2016).
According to Vistaar the freight rate from Indonesia to India is expected to be steady to soft this week.
The Brent crude oil price was closed at US$ 44.75 per barrel declined 1.82% week over week. The bunker prices were closed at US$ 267 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex. Singapore on 11 November 2016).
