FREIGHT RATE FROM INDONESIA TO INDIA IS EXPECTED TO BE FLAT TO SOFT THIS WEEK
PanamaxCOALspot.com: The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities rose and ending in a positive note this past week except Panamax sector. The BDI was flat from last week and Cape Index was up 5.29% or around 53 points week over week.

The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was reported flat week over week and stayed at 720 points on 2 September 2016. The index peaked at 11,793 in May 2008.

The Cape Index was up 5.29% week over week. The BCI closed 1054 points on 2 September 2016.

The Panamax index (BPI) was down 6.25% to 644 points on 2 September. While, the Supramax index (BSI) was rose 0.84% to 721 points on 2 September 2016, compared to 1001 points on 29 August 2016.

Meantime, the handy size index was almost at same levels  closing at 432 points (up by 0.23 pct).

Average daily earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India passing through Singapore, rated at around US$ 9500-10000 per day this past week, while the Panamax vessels rated at around $ 6000 per day delivery South China / Hong Kong range.

The freight rates are expected to be steady this week.

The spot Cape’s average charter rates were reported at around US$ 7191per day and Panamax’s was reported at around US$ 5157 per day, the Cape and Panamax average charter rates were up slightly week over week.

The Supramax’s average charters rate was at around $ 7537 per day, decline slightly compared to last week’s average charter rate.  While the Handy-size ships were at $ 6201per day, the average charter rates were up week over week.

The futures for three years (2016-2018) for the ships were reported higher than the current spot rates the ships were earning.  The Cape-size ships were at US$ 10,000 per day, Panamax at US$ 7,500 per day, Supramax at US$ 8,000 per day and Handysize at US$ 6,000 per day. The Cape size, Panamax, Supramax and Handy Size vessel’s average future rates were no change compared to last week’s reported rates.

The supramax S8 route charter rates slightly up (+2%) week over week to $ 7134 per day on Friday 2 September 2016 ($6994 was reported on 26August 2016). Freight rate from Indonesia to India is expected to be flat to soft this week.

The Brent crude oil price was down 6.19 percent and closed at US$ 46.83 per barrel. The bunker prices also down and closed at US$ 247 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 2 September 2016).
