PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 5.03% MORE COAL IN MAY; AVERAGE SELLING PRICE DECLINED 2.08% FROM APRIL
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port has shipped $AU 1.162billion worth of 13.602 million tons of Power plant coal and coking coal for the month ended May 2016. The average selling price for month May was around average $AU 85.45 (approximately US$ 63.02 ) per tons declined approximately 2.08 percent from April 2016 average selling price of $AU 87.27 per ton.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2016 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $AU 5.580 billion worth of 64.801 million tons of coal. The average selling price YTD was around average $AU 86.11 per MT.
Port has shipped 5.03 percent more coal in May compared to its April 2016 loading of 12.953 million tons.
$AU 1,162.7 million trade value of coal shipped in May 2016 compared to $AU 1,130.5 million in April 2016.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 31 May 2016, the port has served 146 (up 7.35% month on month) ocean going vessels in May 2016 and 711 vessels January – May this year.
The port’s report further noted that, the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan in the month of May 2016.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
