BALTIC INDEX FLAT, INDEX FOR CAPE RISE
 COALspot.com: The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities flat this past week. The freight market was almost same level as last week and only Cape Index was up around 10%.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities was flat week over week and remains at 610 points on 10 June 2016. The index peaked at 11,793 in May 2008.
The Cape Index rose 10% week over week or up 83 points. The BCI closed 1006 points on 10 June 2016.
The Panamax index (BPI) was down 5.55% to 543 points while the Supramax index (BSI) was declined 2.96% to 557 points on 10 June 2016, compared to 574 points on 3 June 2016.
Average daily earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India through Singapore, rated at around $ 6,000 per day this past week, while the Panamax vessels rated at around $ 4,000 per day delivery South China / Hong Kong range. No change from the previous week.
The freight rates are expected to be flat to soft this week.
The spot Cape’s average charter rates were reported at around US$ 7241 per day and Panamax’s was reported at around US$ 4337 per day. The Supramax’s average charters rates were at around $ 5827 per day and Handysize ships were at $ 4723 per day.
The futures for three years (2016-2018) for the ships were reported higher than the current spot rates the ship were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 10,000 per day, Panamax at US$ 7,500 per day, Supramax at US$ 7,500 per day and Handysize at US$ 6,000 per day. No change from the previous week.
The S8 route for supramax continued to moved down or decreased by 1.33% week over week to $ 4821 per day on Friday 10 June 2016 (S8 as on 3 June 2016 $ 4886 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be flat to weak this week.
The Brent crude oil prices almost same level as previous and closed at US$ 50.54 per barrel. The bunker prices closed at US$ 246 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 10 June 2016).
