BCI ENDING AT 830 POINTS, DOWN 4.6 PER CENT W/W
 COALspot.com: The Baltic Exchange, tracking rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities decline this week. The freight market was weak this past Week, all sectors decline except Supramax and Handy-size sector.
The Baltic Dry Index (BDI) of dry-bulk shipping freights, a measure of global supply and demand for shipping of commodities down 3.04 % week over week to 606 points on 27 May 2016. The index peaked at 11,793 in May 2008.
The Cape Index also decreased 4.6% week over week or down 40 points. The BCI closed 830 points on 27 May 2016.
The Panamax index (BPI) was down 5.21% to 582 points while the Supramax index (BSI) was up 3.02% to 579 points on 27 May 2016, compared to 562 points on 20 May 2016.
The handy size index was up 1.16% to 347 points on 27 May 2016.
Average daily earnings for Supramax, for the route Indonesia to India (passing through Singapore) rated at around $ 6,000 per day this past week, while the Panamax vessels rated at around $ 5,000 per day delivery South China / Hong Kong range.
The freight rates are expected to be steady this week.
The spot Cape’s average charter rates were reported at around US$ 6,346 per day and Panamax’s was reported at around US$ 4,650 per day. The Supramax’s average charters rates were at around $ 6,051 per day and Handy-size ships were at $ 4,936 per day.
The futures for three years (2016-2018) for the ships were reported higher than the current spot rates the ship were earning. The Cape-size ships were at US$ 10,000 per day, Panamax at US$ 7,500 per day, Supramax at US$ 7,500 per day and Handy-size at US$ 6,000 per day.
The S8 route for supramax continued to move up or increased by 3.87% week over week to $ 4,856 per day on Friday 27 May 2016 (S8 as on 20 May 2016 $ 4675 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be steady this week.
The Brent crude oil prices up 1.04% week over week and closed at US$ 49.32 per barrel. The bunker prices closed at US$ 225.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 27 May 2016).
