THE FUTURES FOR THREE YEARS FOR 2010-2012 IS AROUND PANAMAX / US$ 15,500 & SUPRAMAX / US$ 13,500 PER DAY
COALspot.com (Singapore): The dry bulk market continued to be soft this week and the BDI was almost stable and closed at 2,421 points this week.
The Cape / Panamax / Supramax / Handysize index was almost same with no marginal change and closed at 3,946 / 2,157 / 1,740 / 833 respectively. The average charter rate were at Cape / US$ 37,865 , Panamax / US$ 17,303, Supramax / US$ 18,189 and handysize / US$ 11,981.
"Next week the freight market is expected to be stable and the BDI would stay around 2,500 points" said, Capt. Reddy, Managing Director of Vistaar Shipping Services Pte Limited, Singapore .
The supramax index in the fareast (S6 route) dropped by almost 13% and the charter hire was at US$ 11,393 per day. Also the ECI / China (S7) route softened further and dropped by about 11% and the charter was at US$18,525 pday. The main reason for this seems to be reduced imports of iron ore by china and softening of iron ore prices.
For the first time in several weeks some supramax vessels were reported ballasting to South America. One year charter rates for Supramax was at around US$ 16,000 per day and short period rates for vessels opening Feast / SE Asia was around US$ 15,000/15,500 per day.
The futures for three years for 2010-2012 is around Cape / US$ 26,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 15,500 per day, Supramax / US$ 13,500 per day, Handysize / US$ 10,000 per day.
The congestion in Australia remained at almost same levels which is about 120 coal vessels waiting EC Australia and 16 Iron ore vessels waiting WC Australia. The congestion in EC India Paradip and Visakhapatnam continues to be high.
The crude prices continued to remain firm during the week with brent crude at US$ 73 per barrel and the bunker prices continued to be around US$ 447 per mt for IFO (380 cst) prices ex Singapore
