PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED 20% MORE COAL IN DECEMBER 2015; AVERAGE SELLING PRICE DECLINE 3.43%
 COALspot.com: The Port of Newcastle, Australia’s major trading ports and the world’s largest coal export port has shipped $1.129 billion worth of 14.833 million tons of coal for the month ended 31 December 2015. The based on available information, the average selling price for month December was around average US$ 87.50 per ton approximately 3.43 percent down from November 2015 average selling price of US$ 90.61 per ton.
According to Port’s monthly report, YTD (2015 calendar year to date), the port has shipped $14.122 billion worth of 158.124 million tons of coal. The average selling price YTD was around average US$ 89.31 per ton.
Port has shipped 19.95 percent more coal in December compared to its November 2015 loading of 12.365 million tons.
$1.298 billion trade value of coal shipped in December 2015 compared to $1.129 billion in November 2015.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 31 December 2015, the port has served 164 (up 20.58% month on month) ocean going vessels in December and 1704 vessels January – December 2015.
The port’s report further noted that, the Port of Newcastle has shipped coal to Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Caledonia and Taiwan in the month of December 2015.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
