DRY BULK MARKET KEPT IMPROVING THIS WEEK; CAPES AND PANAMAXES SHOW A SLIGHT PICKUP IN RATES
 COALspot.com: The freight market was stable this week as BDI closed at 600 points after improving 0.50 percent week over week.
The cape index was up 2.44 percent and closed at 545 points and the Panamax index up 6.70 percent and closed at 685 points week ending 24 April 2015.
The supramax was almost at same levels or up just 0.81 percent while the handy size index was down 2.79 percent for the same period.
In the Far East/SE Asia the freight rates also show a steady trend. The Supramax charter rates delivery Singapore was reported at around $ 7,500 per day for a trip via Indonesia to India. While, the Panamax charter rates were steady and ships were rating around $7,500 passing Singapore for a trip via Indonesia to India. Ships delivery mid China was rating at around $5,000 per day for a trip via Indonesia to India.
Freight rates are expected to be steady/firm next week.
The average charter rates were reported at $ 3358 per day for Cape size vessels, $ 5,455 per day for Panamax, $ 6,522 per day for Supramax and $ 5,184 per day for Handy size.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) were reported higher than the present spot average charter rates. Cape size vessel reported at $ 14,000 per day, Panamax at $ 9,000 per day, Supramax $ 9,000 per day and $ 8,000 per day for Handy size.
The S8 route for Supramax was almost flat compared to last week closing or up slightly and closed at $ 6,438 per day (last week $ 6,409 per day) week ending 24 April.
Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be steady next week.
The Brent crude oil price was firm and it was up 2.88 percent week over week. The Brent crude oil closed at $65.28 per barrel (last week $63.45 per barrel) on week ending 24 April 2015. The bunker price was firm and closed at $360 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore) on 24th April 2015.
