INDONESIA'S ADARO ENERGY PRODUCED 56.21 MILLION TONNES OF COAL IN 2014; UP 8% Y-O-Y
COALspot.com: PT. Adaro Energy, Indonesia’s largest coal producer, has increased coal production by 8% to 56.21 million tonnes (Mt) from both PT Adaro Indonesia (AI) and Balangan Coal through PT Semesta Centramas (SCM) in 2014.
Adaro continued to meet its performance targets, even in the challenging coal market conditions and remains on track to create maximum sustainable value from Indonesian coal. The miner has produced 56.21 million tonnes (Mt) of coal in 2014, which was better than the company’s full year guidance of 54 Mt to 56 Mt.
According to Adaro Energy’s Q4’ 2014 activities report, Adaro has finished the year strong with record quarterly production of 14.45 Mt, a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2013. Adaro claimed that, the increase was mainly due to a combination of sound contractors’ performance and normal weather conditions.
Adaro has sold 14.65 Mt of coal during the 4th quarter of 2014 to achieve 57.02 Mt of sales for the year 2014, the report says.
Adaro has increased overburden removal 8% to 77.55 million bank cubic meter (Mbcm) during 4Q. AI’s actual strip ratio during 4Q 14 was 5.41x, resulting in an actual strip ratio of 5.69x for 2014. Meanwhile, SCM’s actual strip ratio during 4Q14 was 3.93x, resulting in an actual strip ratio of 4.69x for 2014.
" We are able to lower our strip ratio for three years in a row without harming our long-term mine plan due to investment we made to increase overburden removal during the higher coal price environment", Adaro says in its latest activities report.
Adaro further noted that, the lower average planned strip ratio remained higher than the life of mine strip ratio.
India is the largest consumer of Adaro coal after Indonesia in 2014. 15% of Adaro’s total coal production or around 8.55 million tons of coal was shipped to India in 2014. 12.54 million tons of coal delivered to Indonesian end-users while around 6.84 million tons of coal or 12% of total company's coal production shipped to Japan. China also imported significant volume from Adaro in 2014.
Adaro says, its focus in 2015 is to continue to look for cost reduction, maintain reliability of supply to its customers, and improve efficiency and productivity in each part of Adaro's coal supply chain.
“ Despite the continued weakness in the coal price, Adaro is doing relatively well and remains on track to create maximum sustainable value from Indonesian coal”, says Adaro.
Adaro continued to see good demand for its coal, particularly from Indonesia and India and expects to produce 56 Mt to 58 Mt of coal in 2015, slightly higher than 2014 production. Adaro also to keep its coal cash cost, ex. Royalty at around US$31 to US$33/tonne in 2015.
