INDONESIA TO INDIA SUPRAMAX FREIGHT RATES ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN WEAK NEXT WEEK
COALspot.com: The BDI was up 4.51 pct week on week on Friday 16, January 2015. The BDI closed at 741 points on this Friday after gaining around 32 points from last week closing.
The Cape Index was up sharply week over week or around 100 pct and closed at 620 points. The cape index gained 309 points within one week. The Panamax index was almost at the same levels of last week closing or slightly declined 759 points compared to last week’s closing of 764 points. The Panamax index lost just 0.65% week over week.
However, the Supramax index declined significantly or lost 10.50 pct week over week. The handy size index also continued its downfall and declined 6.28 pct to 418 points.
In the Far East/SE Asia the freight rates were soft and the supramax charter rates delivery Singapore were being rated around $ 10,000 per day for a trip to India. Panamax charter rates were soft and ships were reported fixed delivery Shanghai area around $ 6,000 per day for trip to India. Freight rates are expected to be flat to soft on supramax vessels and panamax vessels next week.
The average charter rates for cape size ships reported at around $ 5,945 per day, Panamax at $ 6,057 per day, Supramax at $ 7,487 per day and Handy size at $ 6,290 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) was reported at around US$ 14,000 per day for Cape, US$ 9,000 per day for Panamax, US$ 9,500 per day for Supramax, Handysize/$ 8000 per day.
The route S8 route for supramax was slightly weak or fell 8.13 pct and closed at $ 8,038 per day (last week $ 8,750 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be weak next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels closing at $ 50.17 per barrel (last week $ 50.11 per barrel). The bunker prices softened and closed at $ 278.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 16th Jan 2015).
