SRI LANKA IS LOOKING FOR 650,000 TON OF COAL NEXT YEAR FOR ITS FIRST 900 MW POWER PLANT.
 COALspot.com ( Sri Lanka) : Lanka Coal Company Limited was issued a tender on 23 July 2009 to purchase 650,000 +/- 20% MT Bituminous Coal per annum (total for 3 years) to a thermal power plant in Sri Lanka with 300 MW capacity at stage 1 which will be completed in 2010. The first delivery of cargo would be around early / mid of 2010.
The power plant at its stage II , expecting to complete by 2012 will have further 2 x 300 MW totaling 900 MW.
The requirement of quantity will increase to approximately 2.4 million MT of coal by 2012 said, R.Adm (Rtd) D.K.Dassanayake of Seven Sails Shipping & Maritime. Seven Sails Shipping & Maritime is the Company was engaged in chartering of vessels, Ship management, ship repairs and providing of logistic support to sea going vessels in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The detailed bid documents can be obtained only till 10th August 2009 and the bids are to be submitted by 10th September 2009. A performance security of 10% of the base price x 650,000 would be necessary at the time of submitting the bids.
Bids are invited on FOBT basis. However, the option of supplying on CIF basis at transshipment point or jetty of plant (both are located 125 km off Colombo, Sri Lanka) is also available. Bids can be submitted as a single party or as a Joint Venture (JV). Each JV partner must meet at least 35% of criteria laid down and the lead partner must meet at least 50% of the criteria laid down in bid document.
The specification of required coal is, as received basis. Total Moisture 12% (Max 16%) , Volatile Matter 27% (Min 22%) , Sulphur 0.5 % (Max 1.2%) , Ash 11% (Max 16%) and GCV 6.300 kcal/kg (Min 5800 kcal/kg). 0-2 mm size of coal should not more than 30%. (cs)
