LOW DEMAND PUSHES DOWN COAL FREIGHT RATES; VOLATILITY CONTINUES
 COALspot.com: This week all the segments softened including BDI except for Panamax index.
The BDI was down by1.70 pct and clsoed at 944 points while the cape index was down by 11.78 pct and closed at 1362 points week on week.
The panamax index was up 11.67 pct and closed at 966 points. In the meantime, the Supramax index was down by 4.84 pct week on week and closed at 923 points and the handysize index was down by 2.90 pct closing at 501 points.
In the Far East/SE Asia the freight rates were soft and the supramax charter rates delivery Singapore was reported fixed at around US$ 11,000 per day. Panamax charter hires were also soft. Freight rates are expected further weak next week.
The average charter rate was for Cape at US$ 8,308 per day, Panamax at US$ 7,735 per day , Supramax at US$ 9,651 per day and Handy size at US$ 7,320 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) was for Cape at around US$ 16,500 per day, for Panamax at around US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax at around US$ 10,500 per day and for Handy size at around US$ 9,000 per day.
The route S8 route for supramax was soft and down by 3.98 pct closed at US$ 7,564 per day (last week US$ 7,878 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be soft next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was soft and was down by 4.49 pct closing at US$ 86.16 per barrel (last week US$ 90.21 per barrel). The bunker prices softened closing at US$ 477.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 17th Oct 2014).
