FREIGHT MARKET CONTINUED TO BE FIRM IN SPITE OF CAPE'S THIS WEEK'S WEAK PERFORMANCE
COALspot.com: BDI up by 0.7 pct week on week and closed at 1155 points this week. The Baltic Dry Index is a composite of three sub-indexes that measure different sizes of dry bulk carriers (merchant ships) - Capesize, Supramax and Panamax. Baltic Dry Index clims to 1,155 , up 8 points day on day. The Cape index was down 5.48 pct week on week after rallying last few weeks and closed at 2483 points this Friday.
The Panamax index was up 6.89 pct, closed at 931 points while the supramax index also up 2.78 pct week on week. Supramax Index was at 997 points the Handysize index closed at 469 points after gaining 6.11 pct week on week.
In the Feast/SE Asia the coal shipments were steady and the freight rates were up for Supramax and Panamax size ships and expected to be firm coming days. Larger supramax vessels were rating around US$ 13,000 per day passing Singapore. An overall impression is on freight rates are expected to be firm at least for next few weeks.
The cape average charter rates were reported at around US$ 16,116 per day while Panamax was at US$ 7,431 per day. The Supramax average charter rate was reported at US$ 10,425 per day and Handysize was at US$ 6916 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) were at around Cape at US$ 20,000 per day, Panamax was at US$ 11,000 per day, Supramax was US$ 11,500 per day , Handy size was US$ 9,500 per day.
The route S8 route for supramax expected to continued to firm and charter was up 7.73 percent week on week and closed at US$ 8,044 per day (last week US$ 7,467 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to continued to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly softened week on week and down 2.30 percent and closed at US$ 100.82 per barrel (last week US$ 103.19 per barrel).
The bunker prices also softened closing at US$ 586.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 5th Sept 2014).
