CAPES: BUSINESS INTEREST REMAINS SOFT; CURRENTLY NO SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT - INTERMODAL
COALspot.com: Despite the considerable pressure witnessed in the freight market for most of the size segments, the Dry Bulk Index was able to note another slight week-on-week improvement, although this has hardly lifted anyone’s spirit in the market, said Intermodal in its weekly market report.
According to Intermodal broker, the harsh reality is that we are still fairing at year lows and although talks of a slight sentiment improvement are becoming more intense, we don’t expect to witness any major positive reversal during August, a month which is traditionally slow for the dry bulkers.
Capes
on Capes, Intermodal said, rates for Capes faced additional pressure this past week, as limited inflow of cargoes continues to add to the negative sentiment of the past months. There are currently no signs of improvement in the segment, as business interest remains soft, while the period market has experienced additional pressure, with ideas softening across the board.
Panamaxes
Panamaxes closed off the week on a positive note yet again, albeit the rate increases noted were positional and rather marginal, Intermodal broker said. The Atlantic Panamax kicked off the week with stronger offers but towards Friday business slowed down, with rates easing from last dones, while business ex-USG remained under pressure with charterers holding firmly the upper hand.
Supramaxes
Supras also benefited from the more active Atlantic basin, however it was the improving Pacific that allowed higher gains to be made in this size segment, while at the same time things look to have gained momentum and we expect to see some further increases during the next couple of days, Intermodal concluded about Supras.
Handy Size
Handies remained on par with their levels a week prior, intermodal noted. There was some improvement here as well in the influx of Atlantic inquiries, yet more business is needed for a substantial reversal to materialize.
