THE PANAMAX COAL FREIGHT FROM INDONESIA TO INDIA SLIPPED THIS WEEK
COALspot.com: The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index, which tracks rates for ships carrying dry bulk commodities, fell slightly on Friday on weaker Panamax and Supramax segments. The overall index, which factors in average daily earnings of capesize, panamax, supramax and handysize dry bulk transport vessels, dipped just 2 points, or lesser than 1percent, to 904 points. Strong Capesize segment helps to keep BDI at this level instead of Panamax and supramax significant fell.
The capesize index gained 220 points, or 12.71 percent, to 1,950 points.
The Baltic's panamax index slipped 121 points, or 20.71 percent, to 461 points and seems to be almost reached its lowest levels.
Average daily earnings for panamaxes, which usually carry coal or grain cargoes of 60,000-70,000 tonnes, dropped to around US$ 3,600 – 4,000 per day delivery China. Panamax segment become this week’s worst performing segment. Supramax follows her elder sister's trend for the same period. Capesize sector becomes the best performing segment this week and was helping BDI to keeps the same level instead of the pressure from Panamax and supramax segments.
The Baltic's Supramax index lost 54 points, or 5.88 percent, to 704 points week on week while the handy size index slipped 3.92 percent and closed at 441 points for the same period.
According to Vistaar Shipping India, in Far East/SE Asia the charter rates on supramax were soft and Supramaxes were rating around US$ 10,000 per day delivery Indonesia for a trip to India.
Freight rates are expected to be same level or further soft next week.
The average charter rate was for Cape is at around US$ 1,4251 per day , Panamax at around US$ 3,702 per day , Supramax US$ 7, 356 per day and Handy size US$ 6571 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) was showing a strong number instead of current weak levels. Capesize vessel wear at US$ 20, 000 per day, Panamaxes at about US$ 10, 500 per day, Supramax vessel at US$ 10,500 per day and Handy size US$ 10,000 per day.
The route S8 route continued to soften and was down almost 7.53 percent and closed at US$ 6,539 per day (last week US$ 7,072 per day). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be flat to weak next week.
The Brent crude oil prices firmed up due to Iraq unrest and was up by 1.23 pct closing at 114.81per barrel (last week US$ 113.41 per barrel). The bunker prices also firmed and closed at US$ 618.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 20th June 2014).
The Panamax coal freight market was weak on Friday. Vistaar’s forecasts coal freights from Indonesia to east coast as well as west coast ports in India fell around US$ 0.50 per MT from last Friday.
