FREIGHT RATES ARE EXPECTED TO BE FIRM NEXT WEEK
 COALspot.com: The freight market was steady with the BDI was closed slightly higher at 1027 points or up 3.00 pct week on week.
The Cape Index was also slightly increased for the same period or up 1.05 pct. Cape index was closed at 1530 points while the Panamax index gained sharply. Panamax Index was up by 15.92 pct and closed at 1041 points. However, the Supramax index was slightly lower or fell 1.10 pct week on week and to 899 points, The handysize index was also fell 4.15 pct closed at 485 points.
In the Far East/SE Asia the charter rates on supramax was steady and most vessels were rating around US$ 14,000 per day passing Singapore, but charterers were rating lower. The Panamax rates firmed up slightly and the freight rates are expected to be firming up.
Freight rates are expected to be steady/firm next week.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 11,205 per day , Panamax/US$ 8,328 per day , Supramax/US$ 9,395 per day and Handy size/US$ 7,195 per day.
The futures for three years (2015-2017) was at around Cape/US$ 22,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,500 per day , Handysize/US$ 9,500 per day.
The route S8 route was almost steady or was slightly up (1.62 pct) closed at US$ 9,897 per day (last week US$ 9,739 per day ). Freight rates from Indonesia to India is expected to be continued to be steady.
The Brent crude oil prices firmed up slightly by 1.72 pct and closed at US$ 109.75 per barrel (last week US$ 107.89 per barrel). The bunker prices firmed up slightly and closed at 591.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 16th May 2014).
