THE FREIGHT MARKET WAS STEADY TO FIRM THIS PAST WEEK - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com: The freight market was steady to firm this past week. The BDI was up 7.06 pct and closed at 1258 points and the cape index was also firm up by 22.52 pct closed at 2084 points week on week.
The panamax index continued its slow down and fell 11.65 pct closed at 1099 points. The Supramax index was almost at same levels closing at 1103 points. The handysize index was almost steady closing at at 699 points.
In the Far east/SE Asia the charter rates on supramax firmed up and most vessels were rating around US$ 10,000 per day DOP Mid China and generally the freight market from Indonesia to India and china had firmed up this past week. The freight rates expected to remain firm next week too.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 14,296 per day , Panamax/US$ 8,848 per day , Supramax/US$ 11,530 per day and Handy size/US$ 9,684 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 22,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 13,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The route S8 route was up this week by 8.68 pct and closed at US$ 11,400 per day (last week US$ 10489 per day ) week on week with the freights rates from Indonesia to India being fairly firm. Panamax and Supramax vessels opening EC India were seen ballasting towards Singapore or to EC South America.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels and closed at US$ 109.07 per barrel (last week US$ 109.85 per barrel). The bunker prices was steady and closed at 604.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 28th Feb 2014).
