SUPRAMAX SHIPS FOR EC INDIA TO CHINA ROUTE BEING FIXED AT AROUND US$ 13K - SOLYM
COALspot.com: The freight market continued to be firm due to high Iron ore demand. The cape index was up by almost 25 pct this week. The grain season beginning the Panamax index also firming up and index was up by almost 15.50 pct week on week.
The BDI closed this week at 2,176 points up by 19.47 pct in seven days. The Cape index closed at 3,842 points and the Panamax index closed at 1,923 points. The supramax and handysize indices closed at 1,552 points (up by 5.22 pct) and 189 points (up by 3.27 points) respectively.
The Supramax charter seemed to have lost little steam and there was slight softening of the rates and owners were seen trying to fix vessels on period ahead of holidays.
There were quite few panamax vessels fixed on period this week. With reports suggesting that the Iron ore import by China likely to increase next year by to almost 850 million tons, the freight market is expected to fairly remain steady/firm. Need to see if the Indonesian government bans Nickle ore and Bauxite effective from January and if this happens the market is SE Asia is expected to slow down.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 33,851 per day , Panamax/US$ 15,356 per day , Supramax/US$ 16,228 per day and Handy size/US$ 11,252 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 20,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,000 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,500 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 1.19 pct and closed at US$ 15,938 per day (last week US$ 15,938 per day) and charter rates was firm. The route S7 was at same levels closing at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,875 per day) , however the charter rates from EC India was firm and ships were being fixed at US$ 13,000 per day for trip to China. The freight market in this sector is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly up by 1.75 pct and closed at US$ 111.61 per barrel (last week US$ 109.69 per barrel). The bunker prices was soft and closed at 606.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 6th Dec 2013).
