PANAMAX MARKET RESUMED ITS NEGATIVE MOVEMENT FOR A SECOND WEEK IN A ROW - INTERMODAL
COALspot.com: The recovery noted the week prior in the dry Bulk market proved to be short-lived, as the BDI slipped back down to the low 1,500 points on Friday, after 5 consecutive negative daily closings. The resistance level of 1,500 also broke today, after the index moved further south both yesterday and to-day. Saying that, we are still watching a case of a two-direction market, with the smaller size segments holding on to their levels and firming further in some cases. While Capes and Panamaxes seem unable to turn around the negative sentiment of the past weeks.
Rates for Capes moved downwards, with rates in the Atlantic holding steady in some areas, while in the Pacific things were overall quiet with the exception maybe of a decent volume of W. Australia enquiry, which none-the less slowed down mid-week onwards as well. The average rate for the segment gave up another couple of US$ thousands, while Q1 2014 FFs are still moving much lower than the current market levels.
The Panamax market resumed its negative movement for a second week in a row, as oversupply of tonnage weighed down on rates in both basins, with ex USG, Indonesia and W. Australia business, being the very few positive exceptions in an overall softening market.
