PAKISTAN TO IMPORT ABOUT 2.4 MILLION TONS OF INDONESIAN COAL AND 1.6 MILLION TON OF SOUTH AFRICAN COAL WITHIN NEXT 12 MONTHS
 COALspot.com (Pakistan) : Pakistan has exported well over 12 million tons of cement while local sales have dropped a bit with the result 33 million tones will be produced.
Pakistan is expected, the local demand for cement will increase to 15% for the period July 2009 - June 2010 and Pakistan to produce 35 million / 36 million MT or more. Having reached nearly 2 million MT of bulk cement exports, Pakistan is now viewed as a good market for exports of cement, clinker and bagged cement and the container cement exports have reached 1 million MT to various destination per annum.
As Pakistan's Cement production is showing positive growth, the coal requirement also will expected to increase to about 4 million ton per annum or for next 12 months.
2.4 million ton of coal expected to import from Indonesia and South African coal would dominate the remaining requirement of about 1.6 million ton, said Muhammad Najib Balagamwala, Chairman of Sea trade Group, a single largest coal importer and largest stevedoring and coal handler in Pakistan.
Muhammad Najib Balagamwala, further said, he is expecting, the South African coal prices for last quarter of this year will increase and currently most of the mills are buying on spot as the freight are still strong either from Indonesia or South Africa and they expect some respite in prices of coal which are now approaching US$ 84 / 85 C&F Pakistan.
The major and quality cement exporters of Pakistan and imported coal consumers in Pakistan are Lucky Cement , Maple Leaf Cement , DG Khan Cement, Attock Cement , Bestway Cement, Al Abbas Cement and Dewan Cement.
Growth of imported coal market in Pakistan is depends on those major cements manufactures as Pakistan imports coal only for cement industries and no power plant coal imported yet to Pakistan.
