INDONESIA TO INDIA SPOT FREIGHT STAYS FIRM THIS WEEK - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com: The freight market continued to be firm with even though the BDI and Cape index dropped by about 3 pct week on week.
The BDI was down by 2.83 pct and closed at 1132 points and the cape index was down by 2.98 pct closed at 2243 points week ended 30 August 2013. The panamax index was slightly up or increased by 0.4 pct closed at 907 points and the supramax index was slightly up (up 1.29 pct) closed at 939 points for the same period. The Handy size index was up by 0.57 points closed at 531 points.
“ The Cape index after climbing up for two weeks seemed to have lost steam and some sign of softening is seen”, said Capt. Reddy, Director of Vistaar Shipping. The Panamax sector was fairly steady including in SE Asia region. The Supramax freight rates from Indonesia to India was firm and rates from Indonesia to India expected to be firm next week also.
The average charter hire was for Cape at US$ 15,200 per day , Panamax at around US$ 7,241 per day , Supramax at US$ 9819 per day and Handy size at US$ 7,646 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) were at around Cape/ US$ 17500 per day, Panamax / US$ 10000 per day, Supramax / US$ 10000 per day , Handy size / US$ 9, 000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 6.00 pct and closed at 8,425 per day(last week US$ 7948 per day) on week. The S7 route was at same levels closed at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,875 per day) week on week. The freight market in this sector is expected to be fairly steady next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was up by 3.61 pct and closed at US$ 114.01 per barrel (last week US$ 110.04 per barrel). The bunker prices firmed up and closed at US$ 609.00 pmt (IFO 380 CSTex. Singapore on 30th August 2013).
