INDO - INDIA FREIGHT EXPECTED TO BE FIRM NEXT WEEK - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The freight market was up this week with the BDI gaining more than 10 pct due to strong Cape Sector.
The BDI was closed at 1,102 points (up 10.09 pct week on week) on 16 August 2013, and the Cape index closed 16.49 pct higher than a week ago (2,112 points on week on week) . The Panamax sector remained almost steady but closed slightly lower or 2.64 percent lower than last Friday closing. (923 points week on week). The Supramax index was almost at same levels up only 0.55 pct and closed at 916 points. The Handy size index was almost at same levels down 0.77 pct and closed at 517 points.
The major gain on the Cape sector is directly linked to Iron ore imports to China, and the demand has been positive in July/August and the Iron ore prices also have been firming up. The futures have been quite firm indicating that there has been a lot of demand for forward contracts.
“ The Panamax freight expected to be steady to stable this week in the SE Asia region. The Supramax freight rates from Indonesia to India continued to be soft”, said Capt. Reddy of Vistaar Shipping. He expects, the next week freight from Indonesia to India would be higher than this week.
The average charter rates was at Cape/usd 14,377 per day , Panamax/usd 7,355 per day , Supramax/usd 9,579 per day and Handy size/usd 7,528 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape/usd 16,000 per day, Panamax/usd 10,000 per day, Supramax/usd 10,000 per day , Handy size/usd 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was down by 2.91 pct and closed at US$ 7692 per day(last week usd 7923 per day) .The route S7 was at same level and closed at usd 7,875 per day (Last week usd 7875 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be fairly steady / stable next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was up by 3.49 pct and closed at usd 110.40 per barrel (last week usd 106.68 per barrel). The bunker prices ended slightly higher at usd 603.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 16th August 2013).
