IRON ORE DEMAND: WEAK; COAL MOVEMENT: STEADY TO INDIA AND CHINA - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com - The freight market was fairly steady with BDI up by 0.37 per cent closed at 812 points this week.
The Cape index was also ended in a positive note , up by 1.19 pct closed at 1,352 points. The panamax index continued to soften further, down by 3.90 percent closed at 764 points. The Supramax and handy size were up slightly closed at 889 points (up by 2.06 pct) and 524 points (up by 1.68 pct).
The iron ore demand was weak while the coal movement was steady to India and China.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 5,494 per day , Panamax/US$ 6078 per day , Supramax/US$ 9,291 per day and Handysize/US$ 7,761 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 14,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,000 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was down by 1.26 pct and closed at 8170 per day (last week US$ 8275 per day) .The route S7 was at same levels closed at US$ 7875 per day (Last week US$ 7875 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be continue with the same trend for next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was down by 2.19 pct closing at US$ 104.56 per barrel (last week US$ 100.39 per barrel). The bunker prices was at same levels and closed at US$ 601.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 7th June 2013).
