COAL FREIGHT RATES STEADY ON HIGHER DEMAND - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com - This freight market continued to remain firm in all segments.
The BDI was up by 5.81 pct closing at 892 points. Cape index was up by 2.93 pct closing at 1299 points. The panamax index was holding and was up by 3.38 pct closing at 1162 points. The supramax and had size indices were up closing at 925 points (up by 7.06 pct) and 506 points (up by 4.76 pct) respectively.
With the iron ore demand softening the capsize charter rates are expected to be soft. The panama and supramax charter rates expected to reaming firm/steady next week.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 4,923 per day , Panamax/US$ 9,296 per day , Supramax/US$ 9,677 per day and Handy size/US$ 7,536 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 13,500 per day, Panamax/US$ 9,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 9,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 8,500 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was sharply up by 12.03 pct and closed at US$ 9,640 per day (last week US$ 8,605 per day) .The route S7 was also sharply up by 14.09 pct closing at US$ 7,393 per day (Last week US$ 6,480 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be steady/firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly fell and closed at US$ 109.82 per barrel (last week US$ 110.85 per barrel). The bunker prices was lower and closed at US$ 632.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 15th March 2013).
