INDONESIAN FIRM BIDS FOR 130,000T COAL FOR NAPOCOR
 Top Philippine electricity producer National Power Corp. (Napocor) said on Wednesday it received two bids from Indonesia's PT Trubaindo and its local partner to supply a total 130,000 tons of coal in November to December.
Napocor was also reviewing bids from PT Delta Mineral International, but said the second Indonesian firm failed to comply with some requirements and may eventually drop out of the tender if it decides not to sort out its bid
Only PT Delta Mineral submitted bids for the entire volume of 390,000 tons steam coal sought by Napocor on Wednesday for its Pagbilao facility, which supplies power to the main Philippine island of Luzon.
PT Trubaindo submitted bids for two lots of 65,000 tons of coal each, with one lot priced at $80.93 per ton C&F for delivery between Nov. 1 to 10. The second lot was priced at $81.03 per ton C&F for Dec. 1-10 arrival.
Napocor has set a budget of $81.08 per ton C&F for six lots each made up of 65,000 tons coal. It will take about a month for the power firm to finish its review of the bids and award the winning supplier for the Wednesday tender.
Napocor is likely to award a supply contract below its tender requirement of 390,000 tons of coal, but said it would do its best to source its total coal import needs of almost 3.5 million tons this year.
"We will not allow (Napocor to) run out of coal because we cannot afford to have brownouts," Edmund Anguluan, head of the Napocor bidding committee, told reporters.
The supply contracts Napocor has so far awarded to several Indonesian suppliers covered just nearly two-fifths of its 2009 coal import needs, or 1.365 million tons.
Previous Napocor coal tenders were declared failures as potential bidders were turned off by the firm's low budget.
