TAPPING OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN GLOBAL ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE
Press Release: Mining sector will continue to play a significant role in supporting industrial and economic development in Indonesia which is currently one of the richest countries of natural resources in the world. Indonesia has also been one of major contributors in the world industrial and economy landscape as exporter country and as well as investment destination for mining sector.
The two-day of Asia Pacific Mining Conference Indonesia (APMCI 2012) officially open today (October 10) and will show the world of Indonesia’s potential, opportunities and challenges of investment particularly on mining sector. The conference will present noted speakers from the government officials, Indonesian Mining Association (IMA), Indonesian Coal Mining Association (ICMA), Indonesian Mineral Entrepreneurs Association (Apemindo), representatives from coal and mineral mining companies and supporting companies.
Director General of Coal and Mineral at Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) Thamrin Sihite will deliver speech on Indonesian mining blueprint and the updated regulatory framework on mining sector as the enactment of Mining Law No.4 of 2009 has been historical moment on bringing regulatory reformation on mineral and coal mining sector in Indonesia.
Data from the MEMR shows as May 2012, there are 10,326 IUPs (mining business permit) in Indonesia of which 3,653 are IUPs for coal companies and 6,673 IUPs for mineral mining.
The conference will highlight the status update on clear and clean mining permits and mitigating risk of investing in Indonesian mining amid changing regulatory environment as well as opportunities for merger and acquisition on mining industry.
Data from the MEMR shows as May 2012, there are 10,326 IUPs (mining business permit) in Indonesia of which 3,653 are IUPs for coal companies and 6,673 IUPs for mineral mining.
The conference would also highlight the future of the development of smelter and refinery on mineral ores as the government is promoting the increase of added-value of mineral ores before being exported it abroad. The government has subjected a 20 percent of export duty to the holders of IUPs on 63 mineral ores starting June.
Data from MEMRs shows Indonesia has the ores reserve of copper 4,161,388,376 tons, bauxite with 179,503,546 tons, nickel with 576,914.000 tons, iron sand of 4,732,000 tons, laterite Iron of 106,030,000 tons, manganese with 4,078,029 tons, primary gold of 4,231,305,619 tons, silver with 4,103,541,948 tons, zinc 6,944,090 tons and tin with 684,108 tons. In 2011, Indonesia produced 75 million tons of copper ores, 40 million bauxite ores, 33 million nickel ores, 12,8 million iron ores, 500,000 tons of manganese ores.
The conference will present Nico Kanter President Director and CEO of PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, Tedy Badrujaman Senior Vice President for Corporate Secretary of PT Antam Tbk and Agus Suhartono Vice Chairman Indonesian Mineral Entrepreneurs Association in panel session to share experiences on challenges and opportunities in building smelter and refinery facility in Indonesia.
