EGCO GROUP EXPANDS TOWARDS INTEGRATED ENERGY BUSINESS WITH INVESTMENT IN INDONESIAS COAL MINE
Electricity Generating Public Company Limited or EGCO Group, the Thailand’s first Independent Power Producer has continually invaded foreign markets with an aim to expand its business towards the integrated energy business. The company today announced the investment in a coal mine project through the acquisition of 40 percent ownership of interest in Manambang Muara Enim coal mine project (“MME”), worth $197 million.
Mr. Sahust Pratuknukul, President of EGCO Group stated that “On August 16, 2012, the company signed the Share Purchase Agreement to acquire 40% ownership of interest in the MME project, and will become partner of Indonesian company PT Alam Karya Nusantara. The total investment for this project is $197 million, which accounts for 5.98% of EGCO Group’s total assets.”
MME is open-pit coal mine located in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra in Republic of Indonesia with the concession license from the government of Republic of Indonesia for 28 years starting from March 2010 to March 2038. The operating area covers 1,587 hectares or 9,918 rais and 3 ngans. MME has been operated since March 2010.
“The investment is in line with EGCO Group's strategic plan to expand our business towards the integrated energy business to enhance the stability of fuel supply in the long run. Additionally, it will strengthen EGCO Group’s presence in Indonesia and we expect it should provide opportunities for growth in the future.” Mr. Sahust concluded.
