PACIFIC MARKET REMAINED FLAT - FEARNLEYS AS
 Handy
The Atlantic market continued its downward trend from last week with what appears to be a summer lull across the board. A trip from the USG to the Continent still pays decently at around USD 20k while the Fhauls are fetching low 20k´s. Pacific market remained flat with reasonable activity from Indonesia and Nopac. For Indo-India rounds, a large supra can get USD 8,500 + 160,000 BB. For nopac, a vessel open Japan is being fixed at USD 8k. Iron ore activity remained quiet in India with no cargoes seen from WCI due to monsoons and rates around USD 9,000 and for eci-China, rates are around USD 6,000. RBCT rounds fixed at APS USD 10k + BB 350,000. Short period activity was limited and rates were around USD 10,500 for large eco supra.
Panamax
We have experienced a very slow week with little activity reported. On Tuesday we saw more cargoes in the Pacific market, however this did not influence the rates. The market has slowly been sliding downwards in both hemispheres. In the Atlantic market, the Baltic rounds are being fixed at around USD 9k while a regular Tarv is fetching same levels. For Fhauls with APS ECSA delivery ships are being fixed in the region of USD 15-16k level with a ballast bonus at around USD 550,000. The period market has not been very active lately but charterers are out there looking for index linked deals. A 12 to 16 month deal was however concluded this week at USD 10,000 daily. The drought in the US has had its effect on the crops and there are now rumors of 15 forward grain cargoes being cancelled due to bad harvesting.
Capesize
Its been a quiet week with dropping rates in both the Pacific and the Atlantic. West Australia round is presently at USD 6.70 pmt whilst Tubaroa/ Qingdao remains unchanged from the previous week, ie. in the high 17s. Short period market remaining inactive with just a handful of fixtures around USD 10,000/day for short period. Takers are expecting an improvement in Q4, although it appears unlikely now with lack of coal and dropping iron ore and huge stock piles in china - in adition to the supply of new ships.
