COAL EXPORT TAX NOT RATIONAL: MINISTER - THE JAKARTA POST
 Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan has criticized as irrational the idea to restrict coal exports by imposing an export tax, According to The Jakarta post, one of the Indonesia's leading English news paper.
The paper further reported that, "There has been a growing discourse regarding coal exports. Rationally speaking, we have signed a working contract with coal mining companies and by that, they have to pay 45 percent of royalties and taxes," Gita told reporters on Wednesday.
"Then there is a plan to tax coal exports coming out of nowhere. This could be regarded as a violation of the signed working contract," he added.
According JP, Gita said that it would be irrational to impose other kind of taxes on companies that had already paid royalties and taxes.
The idea of imposing an export tax on coal was recently raised by Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Jero Wacik.
On Monday, while opening of Coaltrans Asia conference in Bali, Energy and Minerals Minister Jero Wacik said the country was looking into imposing levies on coal shipments to regulate the outflow of the mineral and save it for domestic use.
Accordign to COALspot.com, Indonesian government’s declared coal prices or know as HBA has fell 5.36 percent in June 2012, to US$ 96.65 from May 2012 price or -18.80% Y-o-Y.
The buyers of Indonesian coal were looking for low price from their counterpart. The during the Coaltrans Asia conference, Indonesian 3800 GAR coal was offered between US$ 38- 39 per MT against the bids of US$ 35-36 per MT. In the meantime 4200 GAR coal was bid at low 40.
Some Indian traders from India claimed that, they were successfully concluded 3800 GAR coal of East Kalimantan origin at below US$ 36/ MT for spot loading. The suppliers of Indonesian coal were struggling to keep their cash flow as well as their coal stock inventory due to low demand as well as low price. (additional reports by COALspot.com)
