THE BDI CONTINUED TO MOVE UPWARD - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The BDI continued to move upward and rose by 2.86 pct closing at 934 points.
The cape index was up by 3.14 pct closing at 1,412 points and the Panamax index also was up 1.45 pct closing at 1,051 points. The supramax index was slightly down by 0.48 pct closing at 1,030 points and the handy size index was up by 2.34 pct closing at 565 points.
There seems to be resistance at the current levels and will be interesting to see how the market behaves in next few weeks. However it appears that the markets will remain around these levels for next few weeks.
The spot fixture rates for Supramax in SE Asia saw some softening of charter rates. The freight rates for Indonesia to India remained steady . Vessels delivery SE Asia for trip to India were reported fixed around $ 16-18,000 per day and delivery South China was reported around $ 12,500-13,000 per day.
The Short period rates for Supramax delivery Far east/SE Asia was around $ 12,000 per day and for Panamax was around $ 11,000 per day.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 5,188 per day , Panamax/$ 8,398 per day , Supramax/$ 10,767 per day and Handysize/$ 8,572 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2015) was at around Cape/$ 15,500 per day, Panamax/$ 11,000 per day, Supramax/$ 12,000 per day , Handy size/$ 9,500 per day.
The supramax index in the feast (S8 route) was down 1.94 pct and closed at $ 12,900 per day (last week $ 13,155 per day) and S7 route was up by 0.84 pct and closed at $ 10,364 per day (last week $ 10,277 per day) . Seems S8 will be slightly soft next week and S7 route will remain firm next week.
The congestion in EC Australia decreased to 116 vessels this week(last week 121). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/12, DBCT/19, Gladstone/21, Abbot Point/5, New Castle/49, Port Kembla/10 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 62 vessels (last week 79).
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels closing at 122.99 per barrel(last week 125.21 per barrel) and bunkers prices closed at $ 728.00 pmt (last week $ 734.00 pmt)for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 30th March 2012.
