FREIGHT MARKET ENDED WITH A POSITIVE DIRECTION - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The market ended with a positive note with all the segments up except for handy size. The biggest gainer was Panamax index up by 11 pct. The BDI was up by 5.32 pct and closing at 2,000 points and Cape index up by 2.61 pct and closing at 3,218 points. The panamax index closed at 1,913 points and the Supramax index was up by 2.27 pct and closing at 1,533 points. However the handy size index was down by 3.51 pct closing at 714 points.
The short period rates for Supramax and Panamax remained firm. The freight rate from Indonesia to India remained firm with charter rates for vessels delivery South China around US$ 15,000 per day. The Panamax short period rates were reported around US$ 13,000 per day.
The India to Feast market iron ore movement remained weak. The coal imports to India seems to be steady.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 27,876 per day , Panamax/US$ 15,326 per day , Supramax/US$ 16,028 per day and Handy size/US$ 11,270 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was down by 11.22 pct and closed at US$ 13,474 per day (last week US$ 13,627 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was down by 2.95 pct and closed at US$ 11,015 per day (last week US$ 11,350 per day). The S6 and S7 route likely to remain soft.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 16,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 14,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 14,000 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,500 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 78 vessels this week (last week 87 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/2, DBCT/17, Gladstone/21, Abbot Point/Nil, New Castle/39, Port Kembla/4 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 44 vessels (last week 38 vessels).
Waiting at Indian ports were normal about 2/3 days except for Vizag, Kandla and Paradip where waiting was around 8-10 days.
The Brent crude oil prices was up by 3.51 pct and closed at US$ 105.82 per barrel (last week US$ 102.23 per barrel). Bunker prices almost remained at same levels and closed US$ 642.50 pmt (last week US$ 643.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 7th Oct 2011.
