FEW SHIPS REPORTED FIXED FROM INDONESIA TO INDIA - VISTAAR
COALspot.com - The freight market continued the upward trend during last week with BDI up by about 13 pct closing at 1,740 points and cape index up by 27 pct closing at 2,975 points. The major gain in the cape sector has been in the Atlantic where charter rates are up by US$ 10,000 in last one week and the average T/C hire closing at US$ 23,899 per day. The panama was marginally up by 1.2 pct and Supramax and handy size index up by about 0.5 pct.
According to Vistaar Shipping, an experienced ship operator from Singapore, the SE Asia market for coal shipments has been quite due to holidays in Indonesia and expect that the momentum would pick up from next week onwards. There were very few ships reported fixed from Indonesia to India with coal as the demand has been bit low.
The Supramax vessels delivery south china for trip to India were reported fixed at around US$ 13500-14000 per day and Panamax vessels were fixed around US$ 12,000 for similar run. Short period rates for Supramax fixed around US$ 14,000 per day and Panamax around US$ 13000 per day.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 23,899 per day , Panamax/US$ 13,061 per day , Supramax/US$ 14,415 per day and Handy size/US$ 9,945 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was slightly down by 1.54 pct and closed at US$ 12,477 per day (last week US$ 12,673 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was also down by 2.06 pct and closed at US$ 10,983 per day (last week US$ 11,215 per day). The S6 and S7 routes likely to be firm up next week.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 16,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 13,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 13,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,250 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 77 vessels this week (last week73 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/3, DBCT/18, Gladstone/15, Abbot Point/3, New Castle/34, Port Kembla/4 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 30 vessels (last week 29 vessels).
Waiting at Indian ports were normal about 2/3 days except for Vizag, Kandla and Paradip where waiting was around 7-10 days.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly up by 1.42 pct and closed at US$ 112.65 per barrel (last week US$ 111.07 per barrel). Bunker prices remained at same levels as last week and closed at US$ 663.00 pmt (last week US$ 659.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 2nd Sept 2011.
