THE FREIGHT MARKET CONTINUED TO GAIN MOMENTUM - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The freight market continued to gain momentum and the BDI, Cape Index and Panamax was by up almost 10-12 pct and on all sectors, Vistaar Singapore says.
The BDI almost touched 1500 points closing at 1474 point and up by 9.26 pct. The Cape and Panamax index saw the maximum gain up by 11.51 pct (closed at 1821 points) and 11.94 pct (closed at 1865 points) respectively.
The Supramax index was up by 2.68 pct and the handysize index marginally down by 1.02 points .
The Cape index charter rates saw maximum gain in the Transatlantic round voyage which was up by almost 45 pct. The panamax charter rates was also was up by almost 15 pct on T/A and Pacific round voyage.
Supramax delivery fareast have been reported fixed around $ 15000 per day for single trips. Short period rates on supramax were seen reported around $ 15000 per day . The freight market is likely to be steady next week.
Inventories of imported iron ore at major Chinese ports jumped 10.7 percent to reach a record 92.45 million tonnes this week, according to data from industry consultancy Mysteel. This could have a temporary effect of slowing down of iron ore imports. The iron prices have dropped by 5 pct over last 10 days from $ 180 levels to $ 170.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 10275 per day , Panamax/$ 14965 per day , Supramax/$ 15169 per day and Handysize/$ 11557 per day.
The supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was almost at same levels down by 0.46 pct and closed at $ 13245 per day (last week $ 13306 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was almost at same levels with and closed at $ 13008 per day (last week $ 13017 per day). The S6 likely to be steady/firm and S7 routes likely to be soft next week.
Vistaar said, the futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/$ 15000 per day, Panamax/$ 14000 per day, Supramax/$ 13500 per day , Handysize/$ 10500 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased sharply up and was at 67 vessels this week (last week 47 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Haypoint/3, DBCT/19, Gladstone/12, Abbot Point/1, New Castle/28, Port Kembla/4 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting also increased to 37 vessels (last week 42 vessels).
The brent crude oil prices increased slightly and was up by 2.27 pct and closed at $ 114.98 per barrel (last week $ 112.43 per barrel). Bunker prices also firmed up and was at $ 646.50 pmt (last week $ 628.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 27th May 2011.
