LANDED COST OF IMPORTED COAL HAS INCREASED BY 10 - 15% COMPARE TO EARLY THIS YEAR - PAKISTAN TRADERS
 COALspot.com (Pakistan): Due to visiting non commercial vessels occupied commercial berths in Karachi port, coal carrying vessels were suffering berthing delay, which caused additional cost for importers of coal, pakistan traders said.
In addition to berthing delay at Karachi port, RBCT – Karachi, sea freight has also gone up and now touching US$ 19.00 / 20.00 PMT for 6000 SHINC discharge rate for handy max vessel. Indonesian to Karachi coal freight which were at US$ 11.00 / 12.00 level for 8000 / 6000 SHINC discharge rate are now touching US$ 17.00 / 18.00 Seatrade officials, the leading coal importer in pakistan said. Subsequently, landed cost of imported coal has increased by 10 - 15% compare to early this year.
Seatrade a leading coal importer, is importing coal from Indonesia as well as South Africa and sea trade’s main suppliers were Coal & Oil company of Dubai and Gelncore International. Indonesian state owned coal mining company PT. PTBA, is also supplying coal to Pakistan through International Trading houses.
Separately a trading source said, a vessel load of Indonesian coal is in dispute between European supplier and Pakistani buyer, which already laying at Karachi port. Cargo has been discharged at Karachi port early April, but the buyer has refused to take delivery of cargo due to quality difference between load port and disport. Our sources further said, the cargo is still laying at Karachi port under court order.
Apparently Pakistani buyer is looking for discount to accept the cargo. Supplier and buyer is still negotiating to settle this issue amicably. However, till solve the dispute between disputed parties, the cargo may be lay at port which may caused heavy penalty from port authority to importer and further fall in quality of coal.
